Are you an Indian filmmaker looking for funds to develop your script? Have you shot your film already but don’t have funds to start post-production? This post gives you a lowdown of six international funds that Indian indie filmmakers should watch out for:
World Cinema Support (Cinemas du Monde)
What is it?
A new fund of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication and Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs to support international co-productions. The fund is granted to foreign feature-length films seeking support from French co-producers.
Who can apply?
The film should be a co-production between Indian and France. Only a French production company can apply for the fund. Between 50%-75% of the grant should be spent by the French production company.
When to apply?
Hubert Bals Fund
What is it?
The Hubert Bals Fund of the International Film Festival Rotterdam supports projects from Africa, Asia, Latin America, Middle East and parts of Eastern Europe. Shorts, documentaries and films made for television are not taken into consideration. Creative documentary applications are only accepted for post-production category.
Who can apply?
An Indian writer-director can apply for the Script and Project Development Fund with a work-in-progress script. An Indian producer can apply for the post-production fund with a first cut of the film.
When to apply?
Selection rounds take place twice a year. The upcoming deadline is September 1, 2013. Projects can be submitted for Script and Project development and post-production for the September round. For more info on Hubert Bals Fund, click here
Asian Cinema Fund
What is it?
The Asian Cinema Fund of the Busan International Film Festival offers grants in three categories: Script Development Fund, Post Production Fund and Asian Network of Documentary Fund.
Who can apply?
Fiction films are eligible for script development and post production funds. A writer-director or a team of writer-director can apply for the script development fund with a work-in-progress script. Adaptations are not eligible, only original scripts are accepted. An Indian producer can apply for the post production fund with a rough or final cut of the film. Documentaries in production or post-production are eligible for the Asian Network of Documentary fund. The documentary should be aimed at theatrical release, TV documentaries are not accepted.
When to apply?

Global Film Initiative
What it it?
The Global Film Initiative’s Granting Program in the USA awards fifteen to twenty grants per year, of up to $10,000 each. Funds received from grants are used to support completion of film production and to subsidize post-production costs. Grants are not available for documentaries or short films.
Who can apply?
An Indian producer can apply with a project which has 50% of financing in place. The film should be more than 65 minutes.
When to apply?

Films from South
What is it?
Norwegian Film Fund to support production of films from developing countries. Both fiction and documentaries are eligible. Indian films which have received this fund are: Sourav Sarangi’s Char…the no man’s island and Ritu Sarin’s When Hari got Married.
Who can apply?
An Indian producer can apply with a project. The project must have a minority Norwegian co-producer attached. 50% of the financing needs to be in place. The film should be minimum 50-minute in length.
When to apply?

South Visions
What is it?
A Swiss film fund initiated by Fribourg Film Festival that supports films from Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe and guarantees their distribution in Switzerland. Both fiction and documentaries are eligible.
Who can apply?
The application has to be submitted by the production company from the country of origin of the project. This fund is not for individuals. A production company can submit upto 3 projects. Production companies can apply for projects under development (minimum 40% of the financing should be in place) or for the post-production of fictional or documentary films (a first cut should be submitted)
When to Apply?

Doha Film Institute Grants
What is it?
Doha Film Institute offers Production and post-production funding for feature-length narrative films (70 minutes or longer). Documentary projects are eligible by invitation only. Short films are not eligible. $50,000 to $100,000 is available for production and $30,000 to $75,000 for post-production.
Who can apply?
To be eligible for application, a producer and production company must be attached to the project. The project should be director’s first or second feature-length film.
When to apply?
The next round of submissions will be open from July 15 to August 14, 2013. In 2014, submissions round will be open from April 1-30.
